As a community-based
humanitarian organization, the American Red Cross Iowa Region prevents and
alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power
of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
By helping people learn
how to take care of their families and neighbors, the Red Cross strengthens
communities and readies them for all types of disasters, including home fires,
tornadoes, winter storms and health emergencies.
More than 1,300
volunteers ensure that the Red Cross fulfills its mission. The Iowa Region
serves 2.8 million people across Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.
The American Red Cross,
Greater Iowa Region processes all volunteer applications and conducts volunteer
training throughout Central, Eastern, and Northwest Iowa. Disaster Action.
Local volunteer opportunities
include, Team Member - American Red Cross:
1.
Provide
timely response to disasters and assist those affected.
2.
Based
on on-call availability, respond to disaster scenes as assigned within two
hours.
3.
Meet
the needs of those affected by disasters such as the need for shelter and food.
4.
Complete
necessary forms and assist with community referrals as needed.
Additionally, volunteers are needed to join in a home fire preparedness campaign in the Cedar Valley by assisting with the local campaign on Saturday, April 23 to visit pre-determined households and check their existing smoke alarms, install new alarms, and practice fire drills with residents. Teams of three will meet at 8:00 a.m. and then set out from the rally location in Cedar Falls or Waterloo after enjoying breakfast and a quick training session on Saturday, April 23.
Rally locations include Lincoln Elementary School, Cedar Falls and East High School, Waterloo
Pre-registration is required by April 18.
