2012 Waterloo Jaycees Scholarship

To continue their commitment to the future of our community, the Waterloo Jaycees will award one $1,000 scholarship to a Waterloo area high school senior who is planning to attend a two-or four-year College or University in Iowa. The scholarship recipient must demonstrate experience in service to others throughout the community. 

To be eligible you must:
  • Be a senior at an accredited high school within the Waterloo Community School District, (Columbus, Don Bosco, East, Waterloo Christian, or West) who will graduate in spring 2012.
  • Live within the Waterloo Community School Tax District
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.50 (4.0 scale).
  • Plan to attend a two or four-year College or University in Iowa.

The scholarship will be:
  • A one-time, $1,000 award.
  • Automatically credited to the recipient’s tuition bill for fall 2012.

To apply you must:
  • Complete the information section at the bottom of this page.
  • Submit an essay (no more than three pages, typed and double spaced) about yourself.  Make special note of your record of volunteer community service, future academic plans and career goals. Please note the essay is the primary basis for awarding the scholarship. 
  • Attach a copy of your high school transcript.
  • Attach a one page resume.

Failure to submit any of these materials will result in the disqualification of your application.  Deadline for application is April 23, 2012 (postmarked by April 23rd).

Applications will be reviewed based on the following criteria (listed in order of priority):
1.         Overall quality of written statement
2.         Record of community service
3.         Academic achievement
