Thursday, April 14 is Global Youth Service Day. Global Youth Service Day is an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes youth to improve their communities through service and service learning.
Black Hawk County Extension and the Volunteer Center of Cedar Valley have planned a simple activity that will contribute to the well being of our community. The Great Sweep is an activity for young people of all ages and is designed to “spring clean” Lincoln Park and downtown Waterloo. Youth are asked to meet at Lincoln Park at 3:30 that afternoon and they will clean Lincoln Park, 4th Street, 5th Street, and Park Avenue from the park to the river. The event will conclude at 5:30. All materials will be provided.
The objectives for this project include:
· Students will develop a sense of giving back to the community.
· Students will realize that service is an essential part of being a
good citizen.
