Ridgeway Place Assisted Living Residents are Participating in a Haitian Diaper Project

Spring is here! Many of you may be cleaning out closets as you bring out your spring clothes.  Give Dixie Duffy and Marjorie Beaton a hand with the Haitian Diaper project by bringing in any 100% cotton t-shirts you would like to give away. The t-shirts will be recycled and fashioned into diapers for babies! Your t-shirt donation will be greatly appreciated as Dixie and Marj are in great need or more shirts to continue the project.

Dixie and Marjorie use recycled cotton t-shirts, ¼ inch elastic and white Velcro to create washable baby-sized diapers. So far they have made 100 diapers to be taken to Haiti. Dixie and Marjorie are working in partnership with the South Waterloo Church of the Brethren, Sacred Heart Haiti Mission in Minnesota and the Missionaries of Charity in Haiti to provide diapers for the Children’s Home in Haiti. The diapers that Dixie and Marjorie create are used for babies in the Children’s Homes. More than 800 diapers a day are used for babies, older handicapped children and even adults in the Home for the Destitute and Dying.

If you would like more information or would like to donate clean cotton t-shirts, elastic or Velcro or make a donation to purchase the elastic, Velcro or thread, contact Judi Faas, Assistant Administrator at 272-2622. Ridgeway Place Assisted Living Facility is located at 155 E. Ridgeway, Waterloo, IA - on the corner of Ridgeway and Kimball Avenues.
