Service Learning Update

Service Learning continues to be a wonderful learning experience for Jean Seeland and for the students she sees. Jean really feels that she’s received many benefits from teaching service learning to the young people in our community. Jean has a renewed sense of hope for the future and a strong belief that the students involved in Service Learning will make good decisions. She is thrilled by their caring nature and their need to solve problems.

Jean continues to work in the following schools on the following projects:

· West High School - a campaign to develop an awareness of hunger in our community
· Janesville Jr. High - raising money to build a walking bridge in the community
· Home Schooled students - a variety of hunger projects
· Peet Jr. High - a campaign to raise money for the Humane Society and an education project about animal abuse
· Peet Jr. High - campaign to raise money for the Food Bank
· Waterloo Education and Behavior Center - a campaign to educate young people about sexually transmitted diseases
· Waterloo Education and Behavior Center - a variety of hunger projects
Expo High School - monthly service projects

In addition to these projects, the Boys and Girls Club students at Cedar Heights, Poyner Elementary and the main site continue to do service projects on a weekly or biweekly basis.
